Case Study

The TattleTale program is a good example of the complete capabilities of The Minco Group. Brian Hess, of TattleTale Portable Alarm Systems, Inc., came to The Minco Group with an exciting, innovative product.

The TattleTale unit is a transportable, cellular security system. The unit can be easily activated, easily moved from different locations, and does not rely on phone lines which can be cut.

Brian came to The Minco Group because of our complete capabilities - Product Design, Mold Building, Injection Molding, and Secondary Operations. He was looking for someone who could successfully bring his product to market quickly.

PRODUCT DESIGN - There was four main goals of the product design phase.

• To maintain the aesthetics of the already established industrial design.

• To incorporate the placement and ease of assembly of the internal components.

• To design for manufacturing. Tooling, injection molding, and assembly costs were all reduced.

• To work with a qualified material supplier, GE Plastics, to find a material that would meet the aesthetic, structural, and impact needs of the alarm unit.

MOLD BUILDING
- Minco Tool and Mold then had a seamless transition to the next phase of the project. Using the data directly from product design, 3 molds were built to the highest quality standards. Any part changes for tooling considerations were already addressed in the product design. The 24-hour per day operation was able to meet aggressive delivery times, allowing the project to get to market sooner.

INJECTION MOLDING - All Service Plastic Molding, Inc., who was already very familiar with the program, was ready to start injection molding the same day as mold completion. With their expertise in meeting both aesthetic and dimensional quality criteria, ASPM was able to quickly mold and verify acceptable components.

SECONDARY OPERATIONS - The plastic components called for a multi-color pad print operation. Pad printing is one of the many secondary operations of The Minco Group. The Manufacturing Engineers of ASPM acquired the needed equipment, established the quality criteria, then developed a process to provide consistent printing of the Tattletale logo and alarm functions.

ASSEMBLY
- With the project now in production, ASPM is assembling the units to meet the delivery needs of TattleTale. ASPM's trained technicians assemble the units by following a 34-page control plan; complete with color pictures, step-by-step instructions, and quality control checks.

This is just one example of many innovative products The Minco Group has successfully brought to market. Past projects have included computers, printers, keyboards, 3-D headsets with personal sound, telephones, meter clusters, turn indicators, automotive alarm systems, injection molded traffic lights, and gaming equipment.
